Prior To Your Appointment
Prior to the actual appointment at the clinic you will need to complete the following:
A physician referral (usually your GP/Family Doctor) – we can help you obtain this*.
Complete the intake questionnaires online.
Prepare and bring 2 pieces of ID with you to your appointment – a piece of photo ID and your provincial health card.
Day Of Your Appointment
Prepare to spend 45-60 minutes total as you will be assessed by our multi-disciplinary team. You will also be required to provide a urine sample for a drug screen (and pregnancy test as appropriate) as recommended by the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Nurse Assessment – A nurse will go over certain details of your intake questionnaire to ensure you answered the question appropriately and to get a general sense of what you are seeking medical cannabis for. They are also available to answer any general questions you may have. They will check your blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, height and weight. In some clinics, an ECG will also be done for baseline.
Pharmacist assessment – A Clinical Pharmacist will review your medications to ensure there aren’t any current drug interactions with the medications you are currently taking and to also identify potential interactions between cannabis and your current medications. In some locations this assessment may be done prior to the actual appointment and other locations will have this done the day of the appointment depending on Pharmacist availability.
Physician assessment – A cannabis-trained physician will assess your medical conditions and determine whether you are a candidate for medical cannabis. They will discuss your condition with you, review your medical history, and answer any questions you may have about your health and medical cannabis.
Cannabis Coach assessment – The last part of your appointment will be with the Cannabis coach who is the cannabis product expert. Based on the recommendations of the physician, he/she will guide you to choosing an appropriate product and licensed producer, and will register you with that producer, as well as apply for compassionate pricing if necessary. Your coach is available to answer questions regarding general issues with your product, issues with your licensed producer, dosing, side effects or any other questions you may have. They have direct access to the physicians if your question are more medical.
After sitting down with our Patient Care Team and making your decision, a registration form will be provided for the Licensed Producer of your choice. The verification process may take 24 to 48 hours to complete. Upon successful registration with your licensed producer, you will be contacted by a representative via email and/or phone.
Order & Delivery
If you choose to order online, you may need to quickly set up an account with your licensed producer, confirming your email address and password. You can also place your order with most producers by phone. Your medicine will be delivered to your door by express courier service; most Licensed Producers will offer free shipping past a set price-point.
Maintaining Your Prescription
To maintain your prescription, it is required that you attend regular follow-up appointments with your prescribing physician. This is mandated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons and also provides an opportunity for you to consult with your physician. You will discuss what worked and what didn’t, and make changes to your Licensed Producer selection. Please note that failure to attend your follow-up appointments will obligate us to cancel your medical document.
